The collections of medieval art are among the largest of their kind in Germany. Both the painting and sculpture collections comprise mostly works from the Middle and Upper Rhenish regions as well as Cologne from the 13th to 16th centuries. The collection of stained glass passes, the earliest of which stem from the century, is complemented by goldsmith works and carved ivories dating from the Early and High Middle Ages.
